THE ROUND TABLE ABOUT THE TOPIC “THE ROLE OF YOUTH IN THE PROTECTION OF RELIGIOUS TOLERANCE AND MULTICULTURAL VALUES IN AZERBAIJAN”

Helding round table events with the participation of young students of different faculties at NSU has become a tradition.


The rector and professor of the university Saleh Maharramov spoke about the round table dedicated to the topic “The role of youth in the protection of religious tolerance and multicultural values in Azerbaijan”, and the major events holding about the announcement of 2016 as “Multiculturalism” Year introduced Azerbaijan in the world as a multicultural country which protects the cultural rights of ethnic minorities living here, giving them wider freedoms for immortalizing their ethnic-cultural values. It was noted that humanism, the respect for other nations are the national values of our people.


In the round table the head of Philosophy and Social Organization department, assistant-professor Novruzali Rahimov, the head teacher of the department Bagir Babayev gave information about the subjects dealing with multiculturalism teaching in 20 higher educational institutions of Azerbaijan as well as at NSU, the activity of Baku International Multiculturalism Centre. It was noted that racism, religious intolerance, tolerance against terrorism, the approval of human freedoms and rights are based on pluralism and democracy. According to the decision of the UN General Assembly dated on November 16,1996, is celebrated as the International Tolerance Day every year. It was noticed that more than 300 foreign citizens at NSU, the representatives of different nations live and study in hospitality, friendship and solidarity condition.


The round table was proceeded as the interesting discussion and the students` questions were answered. The students spoke about the multiculturalism being the life style of community and the state policy of Azerbaijan, our people differing with tolerance traditions and the higher relations with cultures and civilizations. The slides were shown about the topic in the round table.
