THE CONFERENCE ABOUT "THE AWAKENING DAY OF THE NATIONAL CONSCIOUSNESS: NOVEMBER 17, NATIONAL REVIVAL DAY"

Nakhchivan State University hosted a conference dedicated to November 17, the Day of National Revival.


The rector and professor of the university Saleh Maharramov noted that  on November 17, 1988  the first mass protest against the Soviet empire is a prime example of  the Azerbaijani people uniting for the sake of a sacred goal and a nation  having capable of integrity in Azadlig Square, Baku. It was emphasized that the history taking its moral foundations and beginning from the 60s of the twentieth century, became the irreversible character with the national leader Heydar Aliyev`s political foresight and wisdom, the independent Azerbaijan took the steps to the path of modern development.


The assistant-professor of “Azerbaijani history” department Elchin Zamanov noted that the social-political problems in the former Soviet Union had created new opportunities for the independence in Azerbaijan from the mid-80s of the twentieth century in his report "The awakening day of the national consciousness: November 17, National Revival Day". The Azerbaijani people began to raise their voice and defence their country against the territorial integrity, injustice on November 17,  in the period when Armenians genocide with the support of Soviet Army. The national consciousness was created with the “Square movement” on those days, it was turned to the self-consciousness. Despite all the efforts of the Soviet Army, the spirit of struggle of the people couldn`t be broken and Azerbaijan gained its independence again. November 17 is written in golden letters in history as the Day of National Revival.
