An educational event on Sustainable Development Goals was held at NSU

In order to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the local level, define priorities and raise awareness about the 2030 Agenda, an educational event was organized at Nakhchivan State University.

During the acquaintance with the Center for Sustainable Development of NSU, Rector's adviser on strategic issues Rejab Jafarli said that the University has a Sustainable Development Center and a Sustainable and Strategic Development Department. In accordance with the action plan for sustainable development, the main goals and objectives have been defined. Surveys, seminars and trainings are regularly organized in order to increase the level of awareness of the academic and student staff on the SDGs. A total of 1,960 people participated in those trainings.

It was reported that currently there are more than 300 articles adapted to the SDGs indexed in the scientific database "Scopus" by NSU employees. In the last five years, the most scientific articles on Sustainable Development Goals in Azerbaijan belong to Nakhchivan State University. Thus, NSU was ranked in the range of 401-600 and 601-800 in various directions in "Times Higher Education Impact Rankings". The university was also ranked 628th among 1700 universities in the world in the "GreenMetric" rating.

The presence of 57 foreign professors in the Center for Sustainable Development of NSU made an important contribution to the strengthening of the international scientific environment at the university, the expansion of research on SDGs, and the benefit of international experience for students. emphasized.

Rector of Nakhchivan State University Elbrus Isayev, who opened the event with an introductory speech, paid tribute to the memory of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and said that NDU was founded with the support of the Great Leader. Mr. President Ilham Aliyev noted that the transfer of two scientific research institutes under NSU is a clear example of the support provided to the higher education institution. personnel training is underway. Stating that 3 colleges, 2 schools, and 2 scientific research institutes operate under NSU, the rector also talked about the internationalization policy of the university and talked about the importance of International examination and training center, SRT center, cooperation with IBM in the direction of realization of SDGs in NSU.

  The rector emphasized that the SDGs are among the priority areas in the field of education as well as in all fields. He emphasized that the compliance of the work done at the university and the conducted research with the SDGs is a requirement for the implementation of the calculated strategic development plan. 14.0pt">In his speech Kazim Huseynaliyev, Minister of Economy of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, said that Azerbaijan is one of the leading countries that consistently and transparently presents achievements in the field of sustainable development at the international level. Emphasizing that the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic plays an important role in this sustainable development process with its geographical position and human capital, the minister noted that the region's existing opportunities in agriculture, industry, logistics, tourism and other fields are aligned with SDGs. The minister also talked about the economic development of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic in recent years and the work done to implement the SDGs. He emphasized that all the successes achieved are the real result of the long-term, consistent socio-economic policy implemented by Mr. President Ilham Aliyev. He said that the cities of Shusha and Nakhchivan were chosen. He noted that the UN and its partners are working towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in Azerbaijan. As a result of this partnership, Azerbaijan has prioritized 17 SDGs, 88 targets and 119 indicators covering the economic, social and ecological aspects of sustainable development. It was stated that the application of global goals at the local level enables a more efficient assessment of the potential of the regions, the proper use of existing resources and the formation of a sustainable development model. In this regard, the importance of higher education institutions actively participating in the development strategies of the regions has been brought to attention. It was stated that universities make an important contribution to the regional development process through scientific research, innovative projects and personnel training. "Purpose, Principles and Benefits of SDG Localization: Generalization of International Experience", and Fariz Ahmadov, Deputy Head of the Regional Development Chair of the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, presented presentations on the topic "On the socio-economic development of regions".

Following the presentations iquestions of the participants were answered, a wide range of ideas were exchanged on the topic.
