An event dedicated to the 120th anniversary of Academician Yusif Mammadaliyev was held

On December 5, a large delegation visited Nakhchivan State University as part of the "Nakhchivan Visit" event held on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of Yusif Mammadaliyev, an outstanding scientist and public figure, one of the organizers of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Azerbaijan, corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, laureate of the USSR State Prize, Honored scientist, doctor of chemical sciences, academician.

Jeyhun Jalilov, authorized representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Honored artist, correspondent member of ANAS, professor, Sevda Mammadaliyeva, personal scholarship holder of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and other participants of the event first visited the monument of National Leader Heydar Aliyev in the main square of Nakhchivan city, laid flowers in front of the monument and commemorated the Great Leader. The participants of the event took a commemorative photo in front of the monument.

Within the framework of the event, the Teaching and Research Center named after Academician Yusif Mammadaliyev was put into use at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Agriculture of Nakhchivan State University.

The exhibition "Academic Yusif Mammadaliyev - 120" was viewed in the center. The exhibition, which is dominated by academic and encyclopedic publications, includes books, magazines, as well as newspaper materials in 4 languages ​​- Azerbaijani, Russian, English and Hungarian, which reflect the life and scientific activity of the scientist and include his articles.

In the corner named "Academic Yusif Mammadaliyev-120" organized in the center, photographs reflecting the life and activities of the outstanding scientist, patents, certificates, opinions, and letters received during different years of activity were displayed. At the same time, an exhibition of high-impact publications and patents containing the results of research carried out by university employees in the center's laboratories, students' achievements, certificates, as well as the "Scholarship named after Academician Yusif Mammadaliyev" diploma, the diplomas of the winners of the "Best Article" competition among young scientists dedicated to Academician Yusif Mammadaliyev are displayed.

The participants of the event got acquainted with the laboratories operating in the center and watched the experiments carried out. The inscription "Yusif Mammadaliyev - 120" made from the reaction of chemical substances prepared by students studying chemistry was met with interest.

The rector of Nakhchivan State University Elbrus Isayev greeted the guests at the event held in the Conservatory building of the university and said that the scientific traditions inherited by the outstanding chemist scientist and world-famous academician Yusif Mammadaliyev are an important beacon for today's researchers. This beacon has illuminated the path of hundreds of scientists. Yusif Mammadaliyev's legacy, which was highly valued by National Leader Heydar Aliyev, is being studied in detail at Nakhchivan State University today and is being instilled in the younger generation. A scholarship in the name of an outstanding academician was established at the higher educational institution, and the Teaching and Research Center named after Yusif Mammadaliyev was put into use.

Elbrus Isayev expressed his satisfaction with the participation of the participants of the conference held in our country in the event held at Nakhchivan State University on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the outstanding academician, and thanked everyone.

The authorized representative said that under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, consistent and systematic steps are being taken in the direction of modernization of scientific research infrastructure, expansion of innovation ecosystem, support of scientists and young researchers in our country. The Decree signed by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev on July 5, 2025 on the celebration of the 120th anniversary of the brilliant chemist, academician Yusif Mammadaliyev is a clear expression of the high value given to science and education, the attention paid to the protection of the national scientific heritage and the development of the scientific environment at the state level.

It was emphasized that, like other regions of our country, the development of science and education in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic is defined as one of the main priorities, and in particular, in the "State Program for the Socio-Economic Development of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic for 2023-2027", modernization of science and education, strengthening of the research environment, application of innovative approaches, increasing the quality of training of young specialists are indicated as strategic goals. The projects to be implemented will open wide prospects for the formation of the next generation of scientists of our country and strengthening of its position as an innovation center.

"We are a witness that the scientific school created by Yusif Mammadaliyev is still alive today, and that his ideas remain relevant against the background of modern challenges. Our state values the legacy of such personalities and takes consistent steps to properly convey this scientific heritage to future generations," Jeyhun Jalilov, concluding his speech, once again paid tribute to the dear memory of Academician Yusif Mammadaliyev, expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to the organization of the event, and wished success.

Sculpture teacher of the university Elkhan Zeynalov bas-relief made by and the portrait of "Academician Yusif Mammadaliyev" painted by Javid Ismayilov, an honored artist of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, dean of the Faculty of Arts, was presented to Sevda Mammadaliyeva, the academician's daughter.

The event continued with the artistic part. A concert program called "Songs most listened to and loved by Academician Yusif Mammadaliyev" was presented by the Symphony Orchestra of Nakhchivan State University.

Honored art worker, professor Sevda Mammadaliyeva said that she always appreciates the services of scientists of our country, remembered with gratitude National Leader Heydar Aliyev's participation in the jubilee events of Academician Yusif Mammadaliyev, his initiative to create a home museum, noted that the Decree of President Mr. Ilham Aliyev on the celebration of the 120th anniversary of Yusif Mammadaliyev's birth has high value as a continuation of this attention and care, and those who contributed to the organization of the event thanked.

As part of the anniversary event, a visit was also made to the city of Ordubad, where the outstanding scientist was born and raised. The guests took part in the opening of the monument of Academician Yusif Mammadaliyev in Ordubad city after restoration and laid flowers in front of it.

Then the house-museum of Yusif Mammadaliyev in Ordubad was visited. The guests were informed about the photos, personal belongings, examples of scientific creativity and other valuable exhibits reflecting the life and activities of the world-famous chemical scientist.
