"III International Salt Mountain Research Congress" was held at Nakhchivan State University
On November 14, Nakhchivan State University, Council of Trade Unions of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Çankırı Karatekin University (Turkey), Igdir University (Turkey), Rzeszovsky University (Poland), Nakhchivan Chair of ANAS and Azerbaijan Ministry of Science and Education Soil Science and Agrochemistry "III International Duzdag Research Congress" was held under the joint organization of the Institute.
The purpose of the congress, which opened at the Duzdag Treatment Center, is to study the geological, medical, ecological and tourism potential of salt mines on a scientific basis, to discuss the research conducted in this direction at the international level, and to create new opportunities for cooperation in the field of speleotherapy and health tourism.
First, there was an introduction to the Duzdag Treatment Center, which is equipped with a new infrastructure. The guests were informed about the specially designated areas for those receiving treatment, the library, the conference hall and the principles of the center's operation. It is noted that there are currently 440 beds in the salt cave, which is located at a depth of 1100 meters above sea level and has a total length of 46 kilometers. This congress, which is a continuation of the special important scientific events held at the university, makes an important contribution to the recognition of Duzdag on a scientific basis at the local and international level. The rector emphasized that the scientific materials presented at the event will be published and will serve to convey Duzdag as a natural resource to a wider audience. He noted that Duzdag is a unique natural laboratory for modern research, and the research conducted here is important for both regional and world science. The Rector spoke about the works carried out at NSU related to the application of salt in various fields, including projects such as the preparation of soaps from salt at the "Chemistry" department. Elbrus Isayev said that it is planned to build a new laboratory dedicated to salt research at the university, which will further expand research opportunities. He also initiated the establishment of the Salt Museum at the Duzdag Treatment Center and drew attention to the importance of this step in terms of passing on samples made from salt to future generations.
Igdir University Rector, Professor Ekrem Gürel emphasized in his speech that the cooperation between the universities of Azerbaijan and Turkey greatly contributed to the development of regional science. He noted that such joint initiatives between the scientific centers of the two brotherly countries strengthen the mutual scientific exchange of the next generation of researchers. Ekrem Gürel added that the study of Nakhchivan Duzdag is of special importance from the scientific and practical point of view. He said that the center has become one of the leading health and tourism places in the region with the establishment of convenient infrastructure. Gazanfar Abdullayev emphasized that the congress is an important platform for a deeper study of the potential of Duzdag and its further development.
Chairman of the Nakhchivan Chair of ANAS, Academician Ismayil Hajiyev noted that the systematic scientific study of Duzdag is one of the priority areas of Nakhchivan science. He emphasized that international cooperation makes it possible to apply new methods and obtain more valuable scientific results in this field.
The professor of Çankırı Karatekin University, Tamer Keçeli, touched on the importance of comparative study of salt caves in Turkey and Nakhchivan Salt Mountain, saying that Nakhchivan Salt Mountain, Çankırı and Tuzluca salt caves have a similar geological structure. The study of these parallels allows for a more in-depth study of the formation mechanisms of salt deposits.
Corresponding member of Nakhchivan Chair of ANAS, professor of Nakhchivan State University Vali Bakhshaliyev made a presentation and talked about the history and therapeutic importance of Duzdag and gave information about the research conducted here. "Flora and Fauna in Saline Ecosystems", "Chemistry, Biotechnology and Medicine", "Environment and Sustainable Development", "Economy and Social Progress", "Geology and Mineralogy", "Ethnography and Cultural Heritage", "Architecture and Technology", "History and Archeology" continued in 3 halls and 5 panels in face-to-face and online formats.
