The Perseid meteor shower will be observed

According to information provided by the Batabat Astrophysics Observatory of Nakhchivan State University, the Perseid meteor shower will reach its peak on the night of the 12th to the 13th.

If the weather conditions are favorable, it will be possible to observe the meteor shower especially in the early hours of the morning.

The Perseid meteor shower originates from small dust and rock particles left in space by comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle. These particles, which enter the atmosphere at a speed of about 55-60 kilometers per second, heat up and burn due to friction and form bright streaks of light on the sky - meteors.

The fact that the peak period of the Perseid meteor shower in 2026 coincides with the New Moon phase creates particularly favorable conditions for observation. The absence of moonlight allows meteors to be seen more clearly. It is possible to observe about 150 meteors per hour in completely dark areas away from city lights.

You don't need a telescope or special optical devices to watch the meteor shower. It is enough to observe the sky in an open area, choosing a place away from artificial lights. Although the center of meteor scattering is located in the north-east direction, light streaks can be seen in different parts of the sky.

During the observation, it is recommended to stay away from the bright light of phone and tablet screens. Adaptation of the eyes to darkness will allow to see meteors and other celestial objects more clearly.

The Batabat Astrophysics Observatory of Nakhchivan State University states that the best time to observe this astronomical phenomenon in cloudless weather is from night to dawn.
