NSU rector participated in a series of events held on the occasion of the establishment of the UNEC Zagatala branch

On July 3, a series of events were organized on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of UNEC Zagatala branch. Rector of Nakhchivan State University Elbrus Isayev also participated in the events.

In the framework of the anniversary program, an international conference on "Regional university model in the era of digitalization" was held at Zagatala Heydar Aliyev Center. Within the framework of the event, the opening of the newly created Tourism Room, the auditorium named after the Honored Scientist of the Republic of Azerbaijan, professor Masud Efendiyev, and the Regional Innovation Center took place. The rector of NSU, speaking at a round table on the topic "impact on development", shared his views on the development strategy of the university and the future prospects of regional higher education. It is an important higher education institution in the country in terms of its model. The university is in the leading position in the country in terms of the number of foreign students, and it is recognized as one of the higher education institutions of global importance for its activities in attracting foreign professors. approximately 30 percent are formed from different regions of Azerbaijan, and 25 percent from 22 countries of the world. It was emphasized that this indicator is the result of the university's attractive and sustainable development strategy.

During the speech, the Triple Helix (university-industry-state cooperation) model, which has been successfully applied in NSU for the past five years, and its contributions to the development of the university were also mentioned.

Elbrus Isayev pointed out that the concept of a regional university has changed in international higher education policy and said that today the main criterion is not the location of the university, but the mission it fulfills. In this context, it was noted that the activity of NSU develops in three main directions: regional impact (supporting economic, social and cultural development), national impact (contribution to state policy, economy and higher education system) and global impact (active participation in the global academic space through international science, innovation and partnerships).

 

A number of proposals on the development of regional universities were also voiced within the framework of the round table. Among the suggestions are the consideration of the "third mission" indicators during the evaluation of the activity of regional universities, the acceptance of ratings as a means of supporting regional development rather than a goal, the transformation of manufacturing enterprises into partners of universities, the introduction of the mechanism of the delegation of professors and teaching staff to regional universities on a rotational basis, and the promotion of the transition to the specialization model in the future development strategies of regional universities.

 

Thanks were expressed to the organizers, led by Adalat Muradov, for the high-level organization of the event and the hospitality shown within the framework of the visit. It was noted that the UNEC model is successfully applied in the Zagatala branch and makes an important contribution to the socio-economic development of the region. It was also emphasized that the operation of the UNEC branch in the region not only increases the accessibility of higher education, but also provides important support to the training of highly qualified personnel of the country.
